A/C Evaporator Removal Question

Hey guys,

I'm just about done doing an A/C delete, I think.. I don't really know what I'm doing.

I still have to remove the evaporator and plug the holes left in it's place. I'm wondering if there's a way to remove the evaporator while still leaving the heater blower motor fully intact and working?

There's wiring from both the blower motor and the evaporator meeting where the green arrow in the picture is pointing. Will unplugging that cause the blower motor to stop working?

Also someone told me that I can remove the WHOLE evaporator setup with housing intact and everything, just by removing a few bolts. Is that true?

Thanks.

Re: A/C Evaporator Removal Question

So I removed the top of the evaporator housing and the evaporator. Is there any way to remove the bottom piece of the evaporator housing without removing the blower motor housing (are the housings separate or is it all one housing)? And does the lower piece of the housing have to be removed from the inside under the dash?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: A/C Evaporator Removal Question

the remaining box is one piece. its only a few bolts holding whats left in. a few are inside under the dash. 10mm bolts. you'll need (or i at least recommend) and a/c delete box.

Re: A/C Evaporator Removal Question

Anyone know what parts of the dash need to be removed to get at the few bolts holding the evaporator/blower motor housing in place? I don't want to remove more than I have to.

Thanks.

Re: A/C Evaporator Removal Question

All I had to remove was the lower dash cover. Like 3 7mm screws in front and one hand screw in back(firewall side) pull the carpet down and there they are. Usually have black washers or silicone around the silver washer.

Are these the 3 screws you're talking about?

Re: A/C Evaporator Removal Question

there are 3 under the dash, one in the silver one in your picture (middle arrow, the other two are to the right of it but not in your picture. they will be silver also. they should be behind the white/orange wires in your pic, there is an access flap in the insulation to get to them

Thanks for that! I was having a bit of trouble finding those last 2 screws. Took me a while to realize that the other 2 in the picture weren't the right ones. I finally got rid of the housing.

This is where I'm at now:

Don't know why it's upside down.. sorry.

Just wanted to know if I can drive the Camaro with those 2 holes in the firewall. Or is it not a good idea to drive until those holes are plugged?

Re: A/C Evaporator Removal Question

on mine if I drive with any holes in the firewall unplugged I get fumes in the interior right away. At least cover the holes with black duct tape temporarily.

I was wondering what angle that picture was taken from. Hurt my neck trying to figure it out. Oh well the chiropractor is open today, heeheehee.
