Re: overheating

I see where it should be on the intake manifold. Need a pic of your installed engine to see what's covering it up.

Take a picture of your engine installed in the car.

Take a picture of where it's spraying from

Take a picture of where you think the thermostat should be.

Post all three pictures and we'll go from there.

Re: overheating

Patriots, I have no problems with helping you, but man you gotta start using full words and punctuation. This is at least the 5th or 6th post you've had in the past few days and on all of them the first 10 posts are trying to figure out what you typed.

In a text message or whatever the way that you type may be acceptable, but you are asking technical (sometimes highly technical) questions on a car forum. That requires attention to detail and proper grammar.

For instance: Would you go to the ER and say "help! splinter blood in shoe face but put bandaid on neck"

I would hope not.

The thermostat should be located directly under the water neck on the intake manifold, right in front the the carburetor.

In the engine you posted the water neck is what is covering the big hole in front of the carburetor on the intake manifold.

Coolant will not dry or evaporate (in my experience). It may burn off of any hot parts but if you have coolant on wires it is going to stay there until you wipe it all off.

Unplug all your connectors for the fan and spray the inside of them with WD-40, then reconnect and see if it works.

Who put your motor together without the thermostat?

Re: overheating

He has one. I have seen it in his blurry upside down pictures.

I am way to nice a guy but I guess I am just a helper.

I would be happy to link back to post with pictures of his engine and absolute failure of the English language but I will just add a picture my self. Don't want to get accused of being an "internet tough guy" as we all know the cool kids stopped learning English at grade 1.

So I will just add this. Follow the green arrow.

If I go get one of these will help or?, it's not the fan itself and yes there's a thermostat housing gasket but nothing inside, so I got one it's not that, the radiator itself is new ,and when I go get parts do I go by the car itself or the engine I have

Your link doesn't go to anything.

If you are shopping at a store like autozone you can't buy parts based on either of those things. Their computers are made to search for vehicle specific parts and OEM replacements. Since you have swapped out your stock engine, telling them you have a 1984 trans am won't get you the "right" part.

You have to research and figure out what type of thermostat/parts you need. For example - my sbc has a 165 degree thermostat. I think the stock tstat is a 180 degree.

Welcome to the life of having a pieced together car, (not saying that as a dig, I too have to shop this way).

How long was the engine running before all of this happened? Because there is no way that you could have driven it long without a thermostat.

Also, did you do what I suggested to your fan connections?

Re: overheating

Your link does not work.

You should be able to use the 180degree stat PN 15358

Otherwise you need to see what was done in your fan system and how it may ormay not have been hacked up.

I have helped many people with hacked OEM harnesses and many times it was much easier to install a new fan relay or buy a kit.

Re: overheating

The painless kit is nice but expensive.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Painless-Wiring-Fan-Control-Thermostatic-195-Degrees-On-185-Degrees-Off-Kit-/191049567699?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c7b710dd3&vxp=mtr
There are knock off kits that are fairly cheap and probably work just as well.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Radiator-ele...-/271362118546

Usually I just get a relay and holder and make my own using an OEM fan switch. I think I used the 210 version on my car. At some point a posted a list of the different options.

Re: overheating

You can probably use that kit but I would not use the sensor it came with. I would probably use something like the SW555 sensor and the PT308 or PT770 pigtail.

Kind of hard to see.

1. Is the fuse blown?
2. Where is the sensor that detects voltage?
3. What happens when you short the above sensor to ground?

Would you consider building your own? You can get most of the parts at autozone.

Get a 20A fuse holder

40A relay
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=203873_0_0_

Relay holder or spade lugs

Wire

SW### sensor and pigtail then wire it all up

Or something like this would be better than the autozone kit

I saw a V6 at the JY the other day and not only was the battery in the wrong place but the radiator was in backwards...

As long as there are V6 thirdgens at the yards we'll never run out of spare battery trays.

Re: overheating

DO NOT buy that kit.

Kit contains 4 plastic rods with hardware and mounting feet, toggle switch, wire, fuse, zip ties, and wire connectors
That kit does NOT have a sensor or a relay. You never want to run a fan directly through a switch ALWAYS use a 40+ amp relay.

If you buy that kit then YOU will be responsible for turning on your fan. You want it to come on automatically.

Re: overheating

Neither of them have the sensor you want and one of them does not have a relay.

Get a sensor with the proper thread that goes into the factory position inside your cylinder head.

There are two different size I think 3/8 and 1/2

Run the sensor to one side of the relay coil and +12V ignition to the other.

Run one side of the relay contact to the battery through a fuse and the other side to +12V on the fan

This is about the best one I see on ebay

The only thing I don't dig is the 185 degree fan. I use a 180 thermostat and I like to put the fan a little higher so it does not turn on on the expressway

Here this may help. The question has come up a few times lately so I made this. This will create an auto on 210F fan circuit. Swap out SW555 for a different on temp
