86 trans am ac compressor
Just bought a very clean 86 trans am. One thing the seller told me was the ac (r12) was disabled and he rerouted the belt off the compressor. He said it needs to be converted. Now being in texas..
Can I just put the belt on the compressor and add r12?
If I do have to switch. Does that mean new compressor or some sort of new setup?
How much would it generally cost?
Would taking it to a free ac check be worth it?
Thanks!

None of the shops around town want to charge me 750-1125 to convert this guy to 134a and refuses to servicd an r12 system. I can get r12 pretty cheap maybe just pay someone to reroute the belt to the compressor and see why it was disconnected and go from there.
