How to test AC compressor?

The ac clutch is not kicking on I have an 87' v6 camaro...I've had it for about 1month. The ac compressor was not plug in so which terminals do the black and green wire connect too on the compressor? I plugged the black one to right terminal and green to left terminal if looking at the compressor from the front of the vehicle

Mine doesn't have a plug (maybe originally it did) mine is two separate wires with terminals on the end...I don't know if polarity matters on the compressor so if you put the wires on backwards if it will do any damage
