89 Camaro Fan Shroud Bolt

So I'm replacing the radiator on my Camaro, and I need the bolts that mount the fan shroud. A somewhat thorough google search was fruitless and O'reilly was no help. Are they a part I can find retail, or do I need to go take them off a parts car?

Re: 89 Camaro Fan Shroud Bolt

I haven't worked on an F-Body in a while, but I think I remember there being metal clips that snap onto the side of the radiator and then the bolt goes through those. I was at Sears and noticed they sell several sizes of the clips there. I wish I could remember what they're called. Anyways I'm sure if you can buy the clips there you could find bolts that would fit. I don't remember ever needing any super special bolt or anything. Might want to use a washer so the bolt head doesn't mess up the plastic of the radiator when tightening it down.

Yes indeed, those are called Tinnerman clips, formally; but most everybody refers to them as "fold-over nuts" or the like.

You can get em at any parts store, even AZ and the like. Use the bolts that have the captive washer and the pointy end (body bolts), not regular ones. Get clips and bolts of the same size at the same time to avoid trouble. Should probably be 6mm. Pay attention to whether the clips are for sheet metal screws or for regular bolts; they make both kinds.

I must clarify something here, if you ask for them at the counter, you are likely to get a puzzled look. These will be in one of two places, either the Help! Section, or where the hardware in blister packs are.

If you get lucky, you might actually find someone at one of the parts stores who knows what you are asking for.

Zackly: in places like AZ, they're either on those rotating tree things, or buried in some corner somewhere with the brass fittings. They're more "body" bolts than "engine" ones.

Nowadays they are known as speed nuts also. If you ask for those they might actually know what your talking about, lol.
