Looking for a new radiator Be Cool or Griffin ?

My stock radiator is leaking so it is time for a new one. I have been looking at the two below. I would also like to do an aluminum water pump while things are apart if you can recommend one.

I've had 3 Stewart stage 2 water pumps on 3 different vehicles for several years... and I've never had a problem. They are also a great deal lighter than the factory cast iron ones. They are a good deal if you ask me.

Re: Looking for a new radiator Be Cool or Griffin ?

If I may suggest the following:

While I think aluminum radiators are a great upgrade, if you get a stock radiator or a new one made for 4th gen cars and upgrade the cooling fans to ones that came on 98-02 cars - it will make a huge difference. One of the reasons is that our stock fans - the dual fans- do not do such a great job pulling the air, while the newer ones do. You may be totally against this, but I can tell you this much, I purchased an aluminum radiator, and it was a great product and I would have used it had I not ruined the tranny cooler bung accidentally - well just the threads. This left the radiator unuseable for an automatic, only useable for a manual, so now it collects dust in its box in the attic.

Anyway I made many preparations to have it in the car and it took a lot of modding becasue the aluminum ones are much thicker. The rubber supports won't work, the condensor might have to be removed, the radiator shroud does not work and so on and so on (ohh and the fans have to be shimmed).

So far I have had good results with Spectra - a brand offered through Rock Auto - you could also go with AC delco.

However if you want to really give the car a nice upgrade, ditch your fans and get better ones - 98-02 has the same electrical connector, but mounts differently. If you get the stock 98-02 relacement radiator it has the mounting provisions for the fans.

This is my experience. I just wanted to share so you and whoever else stumbles across this may benefit. If you are hard pressed on an aluminum radiator - more power to you

Good luck !!

I'm considering the new Dewitts cooler that finally is available for thirdgens.
Dewitts has very good reputation for making aluminum coolers.
There is a sale on them at summit, see link.

There are two versions of coolers for manual as well as automatic trans. the one linked has better cooling effeciency then the other cheaper model for manual trans.

Good luck!

Have you decided to go with Dewitts? If you did what was the installation like where there any modifications?

I too am interested in Dewitts due to there no epoxy design but if I have to fabricate a bunch I might just go with a Mishimoto or Champion which I've seen other posts state they require no fabrication & virtually no modifications.

I have the Edelbrock 8881. It sat on unfinished project car about 10 years now I have the car and been using it for about 4 years. Had to replace the back steel cover plate due to corrosion when car was sitting idle. Outside of that no other issues. Not the best priced at $50 more than the Stewart but I thought I'd share my experiences so you can make the best possible decision.

Re: Looking for a new radiator Be Cool or Griffin ?

I have not bought the Dewitts cooler yet. I will install it at the same time as I swap to T56 transmission. I'm currently saving cash for a 9 inch rearend. Wount be until next year.,so no real hurry.
I'm also waiting to get a reviews of someone that has installed the cooler. There was one review at Summit Racing that got my attention. He complained of it not being a direct fit. He needed to modify the lower attachments for the cooler in the the car to make it fit. If this is valid comment, I hope Dewitts will do a correction of the design so that it will fit without any modification, as they claim.

Update: I went back to Summit to see if there where any new reviews, but they had removed the review of fitment problem. Strange?? Hopefully Dewitts changed the design and they thought the review was not valid anymore.

This sounds like the BeCool Radiator. IT says it's a direct fit but still takes a little modding to fit just right. They do send an upper fan bracket adapter but the radiator is physically bigger and isn't a "Direct plug and play".

Re: Looking for a new radiator Be Cool or Griffin ?

I actually have a victory radiator in my attic- never been used. I was gonna use it but I accidentally stripped the trans cooler bung on the radiator so it can only be used in a manual. It is very nice quality - though I never got the opportunity to fill it. Apparently be cool makes those radiators and victory is just a retailer.

Are you interested in selling it?
