Ok here is my problem. When i bought my 96 Vortec from the junk yard, the yard wanted all resellable parts off of the block before i took it. So that means, water pump, AC compressor, Alternator, and starter. (i was able to sneek out the power steering pump)

Now the fun part. I have already started the conversion to carb but i am trying to find a water pump. The engine still has the brackets that came with it for the alternator and AC compressor so i need to know if i should just buy a water pump for a 96 Suburban or is their a pump made for a Camaro that will work? I know the Suburban had two coolant pipes coming out of the body of the water pump, is it ok to just bypass those?

 

i guess what i should be asking is if a Long snout Camaro pump is the same height as a 96 suburban pump.

 

you most likely need the long version pump.
if your running a serpentine belt set-up, most likely you'll need a reverse rotation pump.
the look the same from the outside.
if you take your thermostat out, fill it with water, and take the upper radiator hose loose,...start it up,...water should exit the engine/hose. if water comes out of the radiator, you got it backwards.
you can plug the hole tapped for the water pump, you'll need to plug the intake manifold also.
