Cooling fan was wired up to my MAF sensor???

my fan has not been coming on at all.. i traced the wires coming out of the fan and one was hooked up to the chassis and the positive was wired up really poorly.. so i wanted to trace that to where the fan switch was? anyways it ran all the way up to the mass air flow sensor? why? It was not factory for sure.. and theirs a red wire that was cut off before the plug that went to the mass air flow sensor..

Also i looked up where my fan switch is and i keep seeing that its at the passenger side below the cylinder head. but thats not the case.. this is a 1986 tpi btw.

thanks

Man that is a bummer, I unfortunately have the opposite problem, my fan runs in "HOT RUN" key position, and I do not have the CTS on the passanger side between #6 and #8 cylinder. I am thinking it might be under the throttle body, but have not traced mine yet.

Lmfao, WTF lol. Looks like someone was looking for a source for when the key is in the run position to trigger the fan.

The stuff some people come up with ha!

Re: Cooling fan was wired up to my MAF sensor???

lol i know!! so i just ordered the correct mass air flow sensor so i can wired that up correctly. im still trying to trace where my fan was actually connected to before someone got in there and hacked that up. the wires weren't even soldered or crimped. just wrapped around each other and covered with duct tape.

I guess ill have to trace all the wires in the wire loom to find the missing black wire to my fan.. =/

fan relay, this black and red wire was the one that was ran to the mass air flow sensor 12v supply.

That should go to positive on the fan.

no, the fan grounds to the car and then the positive runs off the fan to the fan relay.

turns out that the owner before my installed the wrong fan relay and bypassed it using the 12v ignition supply to the MAF sensor.

Yes, fan neg (blk) grounds to chassis. What you're showing is blk/red, not neg.Read your own schematic it shows what color wire does what & where blk/red goes to.
Relay looks fine.
