Coolant bubbling out the fill
Coolant bubbling out the fill
I have an 87 v6 firebird. I had to change out the flex plate and heater control valve and it seems like it's been issue after issue. Now it seems like it keeps getting hot and tonight I found where it was coming from. It's bubbling out the fill with the radiator cap on tight. It's filled up the over flow the rest of the way tonight and it still bubbled out the cap. Any ideas?

when did you change valve might have big air bubble in motor or water pump blade corroded, bad coolant cap worst case head gasket t-stat inop, why change flex plate not something that goes bad?

That flexplate looks like it has gotten far too much heat over many years.
What's the mileage on the car?
I would tend towards getting a new radiator cap, as well.
Cheap thing to do in a trial and error situation.
Get a new coolant reservoir cap as well while you're at it.
Can you please tell us what your engine temp is, assuming you have a working gauge and not the mostly gaugeless instrument unit some Firebirds used to have?
Is your radiator fan coming on when the engine gets this hot?

The odd thing is I didn't have this until after I pulled the temp valve. I didn't run it long enough for it to get hot. Just long enough to see if the water pump was flowing.

not sure why it took this long to reply to you but alas i do have the base of the base models. only dummy lights for me and yet i have yet to see the light come on even after replacing the sensor.
i did end up replacing the radiator cap. stopped the bubble but not the crap in the radiator. we're going to try flushing it and seeing what happens.
I'll get the mileage for you tomorrow.
