Just found the source of my coolant leak and not sure what I'm looking at. This is behind the serpentine belt under the air intake plastic housing. when running the anti freeze bubble up slowly out of the small hole that you can see in the picture. Was something in this hole and came out causing the leak to occur?
Just a little history on my car. 1992 Z28 350 TPI with 41,000 original miles. Car was very well maintained from previous owner. I've had the car now for about 18 months. It's in as close to perfect condition as you can get. Will post some pictures of the car and more info once I get this coolant leak problem figured out.
Is there anything I need to look for in a new or rebuilt water pump? I'm thinking of heading to my local NAPA today to see if they have a replacement in stock. I don't mind waiting if ordering a higher quality one is recommended. This is not my daily driver and can sit awhile if I need to have one shipped.
Also quick sanity check on replacing this. I'm thinking I need to remove the air filter housing, serpentine belt, drain the coolant, remove some hoses for the cooling system, remove old pump and remaining gasket material, install new pump with new gaskets. Just trying to get my ducks in a row as I have not done one of these myself before.
Once she is all fixed then I'll post some pictures of the car.
OE pumps seem to have weep holes top & bottom.Make sure you get a serpentine pump, not the v-belt version. If you go new, id get an aluminum piece, but thats just me.
Looks like the one NAPA has in stock is not aluminum. Is there a reason you prefer aluminum 84 1LE? Like I said no rush so I don't mind ordering and waiting as well.
The one NAPA has in stock is a Tru-FLow Water Pump for $27.00 new not refurbished. I'm thinking for originality reasons I may get this OE water pump rebuilt along with the alternator I just replaced. I've seen some comments on these boards about keeping it all bone stock if it's low mile and all original.
Mostly because its alot lighter & most aftermarket alum pumps flow much better.Dont bother rebuilding the stock piece, does anyone even offer that type of service?
