Dropped flat tip bit?!!!

Hey guys...so I was not sure where to post this question at...but I guess it relates to "cooling". So I was replacing my thermostat housing 87 Camaro 305 TPI)...and the small U-shape hose, that is right above the forward bolt...well I was using a small flat tip bit inside of a socket to loosen the clamp. Well...I dropped the bit. I didn't hear it bounce onto the garage floor....I swear to god, I looked for 3 hours trying to find this thing! I used a straight magnet the best I could, climbed under the car put my fingers inside that, had a small flexible pipe brush and bent that around to try and scoop it out from under the pullys at the bottom, and nothing! I looked everywhere and no luck...it is black, so that didn't help. I even took the car outside and put my water hose on jet and sprayed some areas...tried the best I could to use compressed air can (probably wouldn't work anyways bad angles), I looked at the belts where they start to come off the pullys thinking maybe it was setting inside one of the tracks...nothing! I guess my questions are...Im assuming its either somewhere I cant see it...or hit the floor and bounced a mile! And also at this point is there anything I should worry about...any chance its going to get snagged up in anything...or god forbid cause an issue?

Re: Dropped flat tip bit?!!!

If you didn't drop it inside the cooling system, that bit should have no effect.

The bit can be picked up with a magnet...is it probably stuck to the back of the water pump or maybe the main pully inside that lip somewhere?

LOL, Dude I know. Wish I can just Control F to find stuff. I went from thirdgens to Helicopters myself. I wish I could just shove stuff in my pocket sometimes. But god forbid if something got lost, er I mean unaccounted for.

Deal with FOD at work, not fun when something "disappears".

Where did you find it?

Re: Dropped flat tip bit?!!!

Hey guys, so it was to the left where the alternator Was? Like in some little crevice. So it was weird...bc I looked level like straight ahead couldn't see it from above from the angle...i also just recently found out this is an 87 with the G80, and G92 codes...all original 305 5 speed with a 5000 yellow tach...so I guess when I paid 13,500 that was fair lol...pretty excited about this find, just say in lol. O and it has the rear disk and like every option available for 87
