Which water pump do you guys like?

For my 1985 LB9.

I just went on Rock Auto and they've got a bunch for my application. My usual default is to go AC Delco, but they've got a couple of those with different prices and no other distinguishable difference.

Re: Which water pump do you guys like?

If it's like the serpentine cars, all the typical waterpumps are generic, with the extra port on the top side. TPI cars didn't have the extra port, so you end up with a pipe plug.

Couldn't really tell you which pump I went with... Whatever the new HD pump at Advance Auto was. Retailmenot.com coupon code, ordered online with a Speed Perks coupon, ended up being cheap.

They are so incredibly cheap that it's best to get one with a lifetime warranty from your local auto parts store. That way you get a lifetime supply.

Going to my local auto parts store is what I should have done. I ordered an AC Delco pump from Rock Auto and it's painted dark silver rather than the factory black. Contemplating whether I'll use it.

ACDelco Uses Different Classifications With GM OE Being The Best.

Thanks.

It appears you can't talk to anyone at Rock Auto anymore. I called to see if I could get clarification, but there are no more humans to talk to over there. The automated message even says something to the effect of, "all we know is already listed".

I did get this one. http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo....1035548&jsn=13

Re: Which water pump do you guys like?

Gotta watch the ACDelco parts... The majority are not really GM parts, but whatever aftermarket brand with ACDelco packaging.

I've got two original pumps on the shelf now. I just need to find a local rebuilder and have them gone thru. Until then they join the piles of used-up original equipment take-off parts.

The way the parts stores (NAPA) get out of lifetime warranties is by changing distributors/rebuilders every so often. Then they give you that, OH, Yeah, Well, Sorry crap and don't honor anything. Don't fall for it!

I haven't got that answer yet. But being a shop owner they pretty much can't tell me no. I just had AutoZone warranty a $385 Toyota ignition ignitor assembly - developed a heat sensitivity after 4 months.

I'm rocking one of the $18 AutoZone water pumps on my 86 TA. No problems. I went that route because this old motor sat for 11 years and the cooling system rust was intense. No sense wrecking a quality one. Worked fine this summer with temps in the triple digits.

Re: Which water pump do you guys like?

I will be trying the Skip White knock-off version of this Weiand.
Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about it?
I got screwed by his lifters before - did I get screwed again?

When did you have the lifter issues? I bought a set of Melling lifters from SW for my upcoming build. Should I be worried they aren't real or something?

Re: Which water pump do you guys like?

I bought his white box "Genuine GM Delphi" Hydraulic lifters. NOT.
Cheap offshore crap. Wore my camshaft during the break-in.
No oil to rockers. IT WAS THE LIFTERS. Proven 100%.
I can PM you a link that I already wrote about the situation on another forum.

I have a "hook up" at my local Auto Zone and picked up the HD version for around $23 after tax

Sort of surprised no one has mentioned the Edelbrock pumps.

Re: Which water pump do you guys like?

Advance auto HD water pump was about $20-$25 after coupons. Has more fins on the impeller than the regular version I think 8 over 6. If you get it dont forget to give it a few coats of high temp paint. Regular iron pumps change color to rust fast

Might have something to do with how nearly everything Edelbrock sells functions the same or marginally better than stock at ten times the stock replacement price.

Edelbrock's waterpump for my car is $260 at Summit. The store brand Advance Auto waterpump I bought, cost $21 out the door, had it the same day. I'd be willing to wager there are a magnitude more standard replacement waterpumps driving all over the globe than Edelbrocks with their stupid little logo and pound you in the azz pricetag.

Re: Which water pump do you guys like?

Advanced HD water pump seems to work fine for me, things pretty dang cheap. Stuff like this I'll buy from a local parts retailer for an easier warranty process if need be.

I ended up going with Stewart Stage 2 Water Pump. I wanted an aluminum one and it works great.
