Air dam question

Hello. My mechanic is currently replacing the air dam on my 88 GTA today. I am confused about something and looking for some guidance. I purchased a replacement air dam, but in the photo below, it looks as though there should be something in front of it, that attaches to a piece coming down from behind the radiator. You can see clips on one of the pieces of plastic, which indicates to me something is missing. So he asked me to do some homework to see what i could find out. I've tried to look for some undercarriage pics but haven't found anything that's been helpful. Can anyone help and tell me what, if anything is missing, that I would need to order? Thank you in advance, and hope my post is clear enough. It tough asking when your not the most mechanically inclined person
