Are the three front bumper slots on base models functional?

Debate came up on a Facebook group and it made me curious.

Someone was asking if enlarging their slots in the 3-slot base/Berlinetta bumper would help cooling.

It does seem to align with the radiator, but not sure how much air actually passes through them.

Has this ever been tested?

Considering there is a fiberglass header panel behind the bumper to the depth of the headlights... Probably not.

The bumper cover is the 82-84 style, AC delete so there's no condenser installed. (I gotta' get my IROC Fog lights re-installed so I can finally put the grills back on ! )

My cooling fans are set-up to kick on at low speed @180, Engine is an LT1 with LT4 RR upgrade with DD Headers and I don't drive "easy",.................... The fans almost never come on. Most of the time the temp needle shows about 160 on the gauge when driving ( & gauge is about 10 lower than actual. ) If a Coupe / Berlinetta is overheating ---------> it's not due to a lack of airflow thru the nose and opening up the hole is just going to wreck the bumper cover;
