thoughts on after market fan switches

Hey, Just looking through the threads on cooling fan switches. I noticed the Hypertech 4026 and 4028 are kind of hard to come by now.Anyone running anything they have had good luck with? Im looking for something that will have the fans kick in somewhere around 200 degrees or so. I have the 1987 IrocZ with the 305 TPI and dual fans. I have been thinking about the

JET Performance Fan Switch 1983-92 Camaro/Firebird 305

Part Number: 561-60600 (sorry for the large copy and paste letters) I see its available off Jegs.com

Anyone using this one or have any suggestions? Thanks much!

Re: thoughts on after market fan switches

I tried a bunch of different fan switches on my wife's 1987 with dual fans and TPI 350. Finally installed the Dakota Digital PAC 2750 and have not looked back. Works so good I put one on my 1985 as well.

Re: thoughts on after market fan switches

If you have dual fans that both work fine and come on at the correct temperature and don't melt relays than just have one of the ecm tuning guys burn you a chip that has the fans come on at an earlier temp. Tuned Performance (a member) makes them all the time. It will be far easier and probably cheaper to swap out a chip than to purchase a fan controller and run the wiring.

Re: thoughts on after market fan switches

for the secondary fan you can install a sw555 fan switch on at 210 off at 205f.
This is a Wells part number but I think autozone can cross reference it.

Yeah this looks pretty good. I'd like one that comes on around 195 or 200 with that connector. Thanks!

Hawks says 3/8 npt so I assumed that’s what the head hole is.
here is another one that you can pick on and offs. 200f on 185f off works well.

Re: thoughts on after market fan switches

Nice! Yeah that's the one I was looking for. I did buy that other switch. Got it Monday. Too busy with work this week so I will pop it in this weekend. I will probably pick up this Hypertech too. Ya can never have enough spare parts layin around and its a good price. My car has been running great lately. I had a 195 thermostat that was stuck closed. So I threw in the 180. So new radiator well less than 2 years old new intake manifold gaskets fresh coolant good water pump and hoses. It takes about a half hour of driving and sits almost right on 230. It used to run around 210-220 I don't get it? It was 65 degrees outside when I drove home tonight. Thanks for finding the Hypertech. These cars are designed to run at 230 correct?

Re: thoughts on after market fan switches

Yes I think the operating temp of these cars is 230f and fan switch is on at 238 a back up if it runs to hot.

Re: thoughts on after market fan switches

A word of caution against lowering coolant temps, I've found that each engine has its sweet spot for coolant temp at idle to achieve the lowest and most stable idle with the best vacuum. On my current engine I was running about 195* at idle and I had the IAC valve very active to keep the idle within a 100 rpm range. Raised the idle temp to 210* and the IAC valve is barely active.

Re: thoughts on after market fan switches

Geez as usual these cars are a engineering nightmare. Could it be a bigger pain in the *** to change out one switch?

I put that switch in today. Works great! Fan comes on at 195. My car is now running just under 200 degrees! big improvement! Thanks again!
