stronger a/c blower moter

I want my a/c to blow harder. as far as I can tell there is nothing wrong with the blower. it works on all speeds as it should. it just doesn't seem to have enough power. I was thinking about looking for a replacement that has a little more kick. anyone done this?

Just a thought, but you might want to first check for a vacuum leak in the hvac dash control or the associated vacuum lines not allowing one or more of the actuators to pull a 'door' all the way open/closed and thus restricting full flow of air from the blower motor.

That aside, a local motor repair shop may be able to rewind the existing motor to get more rpms out of it, or at least be able to supply a satisfactory replacement.

Re: stronger a/c blower moter

im not sure what I should be looking for. several of the controls are vacuum controlled but the fan motor control is electric. the door that switches between hot and cold is working fine as my temp is really good. im not sure what happens when I turn the fan up. is it the door right behind the fan motor? do I just lye under the dash and turn the fan all the way up? will I be able to see the door operate?

In addition to the hints mentioned in post #2, ……..your evaporator, if original, might be clogged with dust.

Cleaning or replacing (faster) it will have the most benefit to the airflow.

However if you do not know how to work on the A/C system the above procedure is going to be a big deal.

A much easier procedure is to make sure the squirrel on the motor is the longer type.

Some parts houses incorrectly show the part number for A/C when in fact they are selling the shorter cage which is intended for non-A/C cars, and your motor might have been replace by the PO.

You can also use a relay (
even tho you already have a relay but it goes thru too much resistance VIA the harness) to provide batt power to the blower which will increase performance 15%.
Also if you got the motor rewound the relay would be even more significant.

Happy Racing !

Re: stronger a/c blower moter

I fixed this on my 1985 by completely removing the dash face and resealing all the vent tubes. The factory foam that sealed the vent attachment points had disintegrated over the years and leaks were everywhere. New foam and some duct tape sealed it up and a lot more can air makes it through the vents into the car interior.

I thought this might be a possibility as well. the seals are 27 years old. I haven't cleaned the evaporator coil yet. once I get that done I will climb under the dash..
