Driver's Side Firewall Fan Relay

Which Relay is the Fan relay on the Driver's side firewall? I have a 1986 Camaro IROC Z TPI with the Single Fan (no switch), I replaced the relay near the battery and radiator. The fan isn't coming on when I turn the AC on. I'm assuming this is because of the relay on the firewall. I know one of those relays is the MAF relay. Which one is the fan relay? Also what is the part number for the fan relay? Prefer BWD or ACDELCO but Duralast is fine.

Re: Driver's Side Firewall Fan Relay

The heavier gauge wires to it will be orange (hot all times) and black/red stripe (switched +12v power to fan). The smaller gauge wires are tan/white (+12v ignition switched, FP Fan fuse) and green/white (ecm ground).
If the A/C doesn't work (no refrigerant charge), turning on the A/C (the ecm) will not run the fan.

If you jumper the A-B terminal on the ALDL port, it will flash codes and will cause the ecm to trigger the fan to run. If the fan runs, the relay is fine.
You can also backprobe the green/white wire on the relay harness plug with a paperclip and jumper it to ground (key in run) and it should run the fan.

My AC is charged but it blows warm. Would this affect the fan at all? I think my low pressure switch is bad. I tried replacing it with a low pressure switch from Advance (Factory Air brand) and one from Autozone and neither fit properly on the back of my accumulator. They were too small and I could hear Freon leaking out. My brother in law measured both my stock switch and the two aftermarket ones with calipers. They were both smaller than the original. I ordered an ACDELCO from Rockauto, so hopefully it fits.

Could this be why the fan doesn't work?

Ill take some pics of my firewall relays and post them later.

Here are my firewall relays. As you can see all of the wires are faded and are all a faded brown color.

I can't make out the serial number on this one. Even in person. It's the relay right next to the brake booster. The one to the right of it is the MAF relay and the one next to that one is blank.

Re: Driver's Side Firewall Fan Relay

What I don't understand is why the put the fan relay so far from the battery...

Re: Driver's Side Firewall Fan Relay

TL, the distance isn't really an issue as long as the wiring is proper to the length and is in good shape.

That said.....

The wiring to this car is in some seriously poor condition and to answer... if the A/C is not working (the clutch is not engaging and it is not moving refrigerant) the fan will not run.

The blank relay is the MAF wire burn-off relay

What is going on with your wires...

A lot of the wiring on my car is like that. I'm not sure if that's due to age or what not.

I'll try replacing my low pressure switch. The AC starts to blow cold but then it gets warm quickly and blows warm air. It's charged but it won't blow cold.

Does the AC not blow cold effect the fan turning on completely (as in when the car is sitting in traffic and it begins to heat up) or only when the AC is turned on. I don't think my fan is turning on at all. I've replaced the relay by the radiator (replaced it again), my old fan motor was dead and replaced that a couple of years ago.
