Sanden Conversion - Exhaust Brace

Question for anybody that has installed a Sanden compressor in place of their R4...

Did you also install the brace that runs from the rear of the compressor bracket to the exhaust manifold? It almost fits, painfully close. I clearanced one edge of the brace to fit it place but the mounting hole is just a tad off and prevents the bolt from going thru.

Is the brace no longer needed? I would like to use it if possible but will be tough to modify it further.

Looking forward to any ideas!

I think there's quite a few bolts holding the compressor to the bracket. I haven't got that far in my install yet, but I'm using Hooker shorties. I did get the brace from the alternator to the header on on that side though.

My older heads did not have the inner hole drilled and tapped to mount the bracket, so I have one hole in the other edge of the head and the two holes at the bottom in the block. Honestly, hadn't even thought about the mounting holes... A good reason to try and figure out that brace.

I think the taller aspect ratio of the R4 compressor warranted the brace.

But the Sanden is more of a barrel and bolted down far more securely.

Ive been running a Sanden on the R4 brakcet for a few years now and have had zero issues with it.

Re: Sanden Conversion - Exhaust Brace

Possible the brace is overkill with the Sanden, but since I only have one mounting point on top, I figured I would try and clearance the holes a bit.

Thick piece of steel, having to use a cutting disk on my Dremel. Probably not the best tool for the job, but what I have handy. Slow going, but making progress. A little more trimming and it should fit fine.

Notched edge off top to clear the Sanden. Elongating both holes. Slow progress.
