Lime deposit chunks

Hi everyone,

In the process of fixing up my camaro (heater core replacement, radiator replacement) HUGE chunks of lime deposits (or calcium) came out from the core and the old rad. That being said, what are some recommendations to flush out the block? Hose? Prestone cleaner? I’d want to make sure there’s no other deposits in the engine block before hooking up a brand new radiator and ruining it. Thanks for any input.

Re: Lime deposit chunks

This stuff WILL dissolve your deposits. But I cannot say what it might do to the rest of your cooling system. So if you decide to use this, you will have to experiment to determine how much to use. I actually did run this product through my home hydronic baseboard heating system to clean it out.

When you are ready to do your final fill after cleaning/flushing - use distilled water - never tap water. Your cooling system will look like new forever. Distilled works!

Thanks, I actually have this stuff at home but was hesitant to use it, but if it’s been done before then I will definitely give it a go 👍

Re: Lime deposit chunks

Use at your own risk. The CLR bottle warns it is corrosive to aluminum (major component of cooling systems). I like the idea but have steered away from it for that.
