I have a 88 350 tpi. Previous owner said a/c didn't work. No details about why etc.. Tried to fill it with freon and the pipe on the high side was loose. Like so loose it it could he spun with you fingers.. Anyone know what size wrench it takes? My set only goes to 7/8s and that was too small. Could I be that lucky that this is the only issue with the system? Haha I doubt it but we will see. I'm guessing i will just have to pull off the egr stuff to actually be able to tighten it.
Looks like one of those Crescent wrench sizes to me. Can't recall the exact number, but either a metric or SAE adjustable oughtta get it. Available at ALL the "home improvement" stores as well as REAL hardware stores, auto parts stores, even WalMart, and so forth.
Once you get your adjustable set to the right size, by all means post what it measures between the jaws, so the next person in the same situation can be prepared.
Is the O-ring still OK? Does it actually tighten up; by hand, or whatever?
Yes absolutely, you COULD be that lucky. Would I bet on it? (even if I was the betting kind) Probably not. Butt who knows, tackle what you can SEE is messed up (with a capital F), and work outward from there.

Since I technically don't know what has been in the system most recently r12 or r134. What is the best way to refill it? I plan on renting some pressure gauges to make sure the system is sealed tight and to pull a vacuum on it.

Just check the service ports. If its got the R-134a fittings, then it has 134..

Right on the accumulator. and the hard line.
It has the r12 port. Can I just refill it with some r134a easy cool ? They sell a retro for kit they say is compatible with an r12 system. I have also read on here people just emptying the r12 system and swapping to r134 and not having any problems that the r12 system needing modification for r124a s a gimmick to just cost you money.

I'm one of those lol On some cars i just filled with 134 without doing anything. Just regular 134 a...nothing about compatibility etc... didn't even flush or change the oils!! Depends on your goals IMO....like if you plan to eventually change everything Id do the conversion right....if you just want to see if you can get cold air and don't care then just shoot 134 in it.....Id suggest this so you can see fi your system is at least working.
You just need to put on a 134 fitting on the low side port.......that would be on the accumulator. so you can get 134 into the system.... Be sure to remove the old R-12 valve in the port though otherwise you won't get it to fill as the 134a fitting has a valve in it already....
EVENTUALLY I did things the right way but it blew ice cold this hack way for years on my S-10 before I changed things out.

Okay hats what alot of people have told me they did too. Since I don't even know what all is needed yet to make it work I definitely am going to put r134a in there and see what happens. Appreciate the help.

Just look for oil seepage / wetness in areas like the lines, condenser, compressor etc...
