A/F and Timing tuning tips Needed

Have a 410SBC with a FAST computer, 11-1 and AFR heads. Trying to tune it. Base timing 6°. Why does the following happen-

Move the timing at idle to 12° the headers get red with a 13.2 A/F reading at the WBO2. Continue to make it richer but they got hotter. Should I have gone leaner?

Move the timing at idle to 27° the headers cool and I can get a 14.7 A/F reading at the WB02. The only issue I have with this is after I come off the road to an idle the cat will turn light red after ~1 minute. I cut the timing back and the red goes away. But by cutting the timing back the headers then begin to glow. Any comments welcomed.
