Non ECM Distributor w/ ECM?
How would my ECM react as for fuel management if I were to install a Mallory Unilite(Non- computer controled) distributor in the car. Would it foul things up or will the computer still properly run the fuel system even if my ignition advances is set internally in the distributor?

Checking back in for any response- I would tend to think that anyone in the know about computer controlled cars and chip burning would know if you could just bypass or delete the distributor setting in the ecm module? Is anyone here in the know?

You will still need to supply a distributor reference pulse (DRP) to the ECM. The ECM uses the DRP to sync the injector firings and derive the engine RPM for fueling lookups. To prevent a SES light you will also need to handle the EST & BYPASS correctly. The ECM looks for the EST line to be held low until the engine is up to speed (from a startup). The ECM will then set the BYAPSS which in turn the ICM ungrounds the EST line. Else code 42.
I do need to say that you will lose a lot by going to a non-computer controlled distributor. If you are looking for tuning flexability then changing the cal would be a better way (albit with a steeper learning curve). Can also upgrade to the 3.1L SD setup. The code is better and there is also a hac available for it. Only real area of concern is that it uses a digital EGR.

Thank you RBob, That is the answer I was looking for. I wasn't certain if the Distributor set the tone of the Fuel injection and you say it does somewhat- I'll leave things alone. Thanks again.
