VAT with Accel Gen VII

Hello all,
I have a '89 Firebird 305, TBI, with ATI Procharger. I am converting it to a accel superram and Gen VII DFI. The garage that is doing this told me that they had to program the chip becasue of the VAT problems. I dont understand. Heres my questions:

1. Doesn't the GEN VII ECM replace the GM ECM?
2. If no, then what does the GM ECM Control?
3. How can I have VAT Problems?, since the key has a resistor and talks to the ECM, the ECM must have a hard code which is not on the chip, however you can disable the VAT on the chip which will ignore all readings from the ECM. ( is this how it works)

If they must program the chip, how long should it take them. I was told 1 1/2 hours. I say , at the most 1/2 hour.

Please explain to me how this works and why the GEN VII would cause problems.

You can buy a VAT by pass for about $25 bucks. I think the ones for a key you just put the key in the bypass module and wire it inline. I installed remote starter in my 2001 Sonoma and had to use a bypass although mine is not a key system. I got it from www.bulldogsecurity.com.

On second thought, they don't sell direct but they can route you to the wholeseller.

**After further thought nevermind, the bypass uses a key placed inside it to send a signal to the ecm to allow the car to be started without the key in the ign but you no longer have the oem ecm to send the signal to.
