Block learns- shouldn't they carry over from start to start?
I have recently borrowed a Diacom scanner from my brother. I'm pluggin it inter everything I can find. Something I have noticed that I think is odd- the block learns all go back to 128 every time I stop and restart the engine. This doesn't sound right to me. I thought they were supposed to be retained between starts.
I have tried it on my 94 Formula (still OBD1) and my 91 GMC Jimmy (4.3L TBI). As soon as the ECM goes into closed loop mode you can see them slowly re-learning back down to where they normally stabilize- 122 or so, depending on the car and cell number it's running in. But turn the engine off and restart and they are all back at 128 and begin the learning process all over again.
Is this a quirk of Diacom to automatically reset the block learns? Am I doing somethign wrong?
