'89 5.0 TPI 5speed PROM part numbers!?!
I need to know what the part numbers are for PROM's made for the '89 TPI 5 speed F-bodies..........my PROM was taken out of the car and replaced with an '87 PROM. I need the correct part number(s) so I can order a new PROM.
I haven't found any place on the web where I can find this info.
Who'll give me the numbers?...........THANKS!!:hail: :hail: :hail:

If no one else responds, these may get you enough info to help your dealer find the p/n. The second link is supposed to have links straight to GMpartsdirect. I haven't tried them yet though.

The two links list year and option which cross to a ID. ex. $8D AUJP
With that info, go to the second link. It lists prom/memcal p/n's with links to mailorder them.
The second link has your part numbers.
You just have to figure out which prom your car came with. Spend a little more time and you'll figure it out.
It took me a few minutes. I new I wanted a $8D with AUJP so I clicked through and got a price.

Well, I've been looking thru all the numbers and, luckily, I've finally found what I think I need!!!!!
That's "APYS 3509" 89 5.0L 8cyl MFI HO LB9 fed w. man part nr. 16133474.
:hail:
The only difference is that they list this in a combo with a 3.08 axle and I think I've got a 3.45.
For the rest I do think this is the one for my 5.0 TPI dualcat 5 speed 3.45 GTA.
If anyone thinks otherwise please inform me!!

You need to match the gear ratio. At a minimum your speedo will be off. I've only worked with aujp which is a 92 350 a4. I don't know what else the gear ratio will affect in the earlier proms.
W/ a T5, it may not be too bad. But probably a waste of $45. Unless you want to get into tunning.
Have you tried a different dealer? Some are more inclined to help than others.

I haven't found another number that corresponds with my 3.45 rear axle. (could be, they're pretty rare as they've only built 366 of those as far as I've found out).
But what I didn't know was that there WAS an influence from the PROM on the speedometer on an '89 !?!
I always thought that the PROM only gave some things like timing advance, fuel injection and supply and stuff but I never thought it had to do with the rear end??
I mean all the "performance chips" I've read about always noted the specific engine combo they were designed for, but they never mentioned what rear axle the were supposed to go with.......
Can anyone shed a light on this!!??
Thanks again folks!!!!!

I was wrong. 89's and earlier have a seperate box for the speedo. So it will read correct. Now that I know a slight bit more, the tag on your ECM has info for what chip is in it. The dealer should be able to cross it with those numbers. Assuming it's the stock ECM.
