Bad ECU?
Bad ECM/ECU?
Hi,
Im new here and encountered a problem with my 1991 Camaro RS that has a 305 tbi and an automatic.Just yesterday it was running PERFECT.Well, not perfect because i've always had a knock whenever the transmission would shift to a lower gear. Then it would hesitate/knock.But that is not my problem.
This morning,i go to start her up and it just cranks over.I checked for spark and I have none.I check for fuel and i have none.THe only thing that I know that controls fuel and spark is the ECU?Or could it be my ignition module?PLEASE HELP I HAVE SCHOOL TOMORROW
Also what do they call it?the ECM or the ECU for the computer?I know the ford guys call it the ECU.

You are correct in thinking the ignition module. The ECM needs to see distributor pulses in order to fire the injectors. If it is the ignition both the module and the pickup coil and main coil are suspects.
There is also a major fuse under the hood on the passenger side. It is along the fender about 1-2' back from the front. This provides power to the EFI system.
We generally use the term ECM.
