Last Accel Wideband Question (for a while)

I read that the Accel 7 wire wideband O2 sensor had a direct voltage out that read the A/F ratio in volts.. If I were to install a digital voltmeter in the dash to the red and black wires off the sensor would this give me the A/F ratio in real time?

I thought it would be neat to have a dual pole switch that I could switch back and forth between Battery Voltage and A/F ratio on a single Digital Guage.

Thanks!

Yes it will, But all gauges are not created equal. Some digital volt gauges actually take more power than the WB puts out so the gauge will not light. I have a Norskog that will not work. So keep away from this one. I think I will try one with a smaller display hoping it draws less. Maybe DFIGuy will jump in here with some recommendations.

You're best off with a self-powered digital meter instead of a gauge. I think we've used one made by a company called Dakota Digital. It has it's own power/ground leads to the battery, and you just run the O2 voltage as an input to the meter.

Otherwise, if you're electronically inclined, you could whip up a voltage follower using an op amp so that current draw is not an issue. However, being that the output is up to 20 volts, the circuit may have to be a little trickier than normal.

Thanks aDFIguy,

I emailed Dakota a while back for info on their guage... I know it has a seperate Pos and Neg lugs and a Send lug, so I assume its only a reference lead.

I am going to confirm it and will report back if they write me back.. for 80 bucks I am not going to try and have it not work.

I got a Dakota Digital Guage and began wiring it up and had a little problem.

When I probe the black and red leads coming off the o2 sensor I get no voltage, if I probe the Red on the o2 and the chassis ground I get about 4.8 volts instead of the 13.8-14.2 the laptop is reading. I then back probed all the leads on the sensor and none gave the correct reading.

What gives?

Thanks

you hook it up to the red and black wire coming out of the wideband box with the plug on it. You hook up nothing to the 02 sensor.

I must be lost!

There is a harness coming off the 02 sensor with 7 wires in it, that plugs into a extension harness that then connects to the O2 signal conditioner. then 4 wires come out of the box and go to the normal 02 sensor harness.

I am back probing the 7 harness plug that comes out of the box, using the solid red and solid black wires with my multimeter. I get about 4.2 volts with the engine running or not. I have since back since back probed the 4 wire harness also with no luck.

I guess it sounded simpler then it is!

Thanks

Stop probing. There is a seperate plug for it, unless you have the first version. I have one here I will post a pick in a little bit.

Well that figures..

I only have 2 harness plugs coming out... a 7 and 4 wire.. My Serial number on the box is 1054 and I just got it a few weeks ago..

I would like to see the pic if I could..

Something's not right here. I will talk with Noah and see if we can figure out how you got sent an older type 1 wideband instead of the current type 2 parts that have been shipping for almost a year.

It's possible that your dealer may have had an older type 1 sitting around that he filled your order with. In that case, you may have to yell at them to get a current model from them.

I'll see what I can do.

Thanks guys, I got it from EPW Engine Performance Warehouse but they said they had it dropped shipped Direct from Accel. I dunno, but I spent a good bit of money getting a guage to read it and a new guage panel, this is just my luck!
