I use a accel DFIV7 on my boosted cutlass with a HSR. I also am in the process of putting one in my Typhoon with a intake I made.

Actually I'd recommend an OEM GM ECM: the 1227749 or the 1227730 running the $58 mask. This mask will run in either ECM and as is will handle up to 1 bar of boost (14.7PSI). The $58 mask is the EPROM bin and was used in several GM turbo vehicles including the Typhoons and Syclones.

I do not know that much about stock GM computers, but if he runs more than 14.7 psi with that D-1 the 2 bar map will not work and he will have to go with a 3 bar (as most of us sy-ty guys do) will that $58 mask work with a 3 bar setup?

With a code patch the $58 code will work with a 3 bar MAP. I've heard rumors of a patch out there in the public, but have not seen it.

Overshooting the rating of the sensor slightly isn't a big deal, unless your Pro Racing.

To say you need to run a 3 bar MAP, on a car running 15 PSI is more harmful then good, IMO. Why use a sensor the gives 1/3 resolution to gain resolution to run an increase of .3 PSI?.

There are alot more important issues that folks tend to ignore.

How healthy?.
How high of RPM are you going to spin it?.
S/C is much different the running N/A. Saturn5, had a TPI with S/Cs running really well, blowing thur the TPI.

lets just say

it has canfield 220 heads a mechanical roller cam(.575/.590) lift and it has been stroked

the cam has been designed for a D-1 on 25# of boost

this is a race car that can be driven somewhat on the street but i want a DFI kit not anything by GM (GM didnt make the car with supercharger so they didnt intend for one to be on there with FI)

and i want a DFI cuz i am completely gutting the car and re-wiring it

on a slight side note..... HI, im in charleston too... itd be cool to check out your setup sometime..

im doing something similar, and considering aftermarket DFI too. soild roller 400 with a eaton M112.

all of the current aftermarket setups ive seen support boost, so you're mostly looking at the other features.

if you can afford it, the Accel DFI VII is the best out there that ive seen... on the cheaper but still fully functional side is the holley Commander 950.

dont go off thinking the GM 749 isnt a very capable system.. the learning curve is a lil steeper but it is a fully functional, cheaper option.

Whatcha need?

The 749 can be found in Sunbird Turbo, Typhoons, Syclones, and the odd Qrand Am with a Quad 4.

The code, mask $58, with a few simple changes, works great for a cheap and effective boosted EFI.

Depending on your injector flow rates, a more easily found 730 ECM can be used in place of a 749 ECM. The determining factor is the 730 requires using saturated type injectors. The 749 has an additional injector driver circuit in parallel to the first, which allowed using Peak and Hold TPI injectors with the Sunbird. However in stock config, the ECM can only run 4 P/H injectors. The ECM can be "upgraded" with heavier duty FETs along with changing a couple resistors to allow running 8 P/H injectors.

The code is quite capable of the task, same with the ECM. Plus its OEM grade. And easy to find a spare.

The Syclones came with turbos, and ran 14 PSI off the show room floor.

As far as fast with a stock ecm, there's a number of Grand Nationals in the 9's, running stock ecms.

It does take a certain level of sophistication for an EFI car to be fun to drive on the street, the older DFIs were rather lacking in that reguard, and the newer ones are quickly catching up to the oems in complexity.
