need some ecm help
alright guys i'm going to pickup an ecm to replace mine since my tuner thinks it's bad. i don't want to get a reman from the yard but since gm's is reman and 3 times the price i figure what do i have to loose.
what can i do to insure that the ecm i get is good and i'm not just swapping junk for junk?

well the yards around me typically have them just laying around as they remove them from the cars when the come in i suppose???
all the places have offered me a return/exchange setup but i'm just hoping to gain a little knowledge on them in general so i would know what to look for beyond the obvious when i pick it up. i hate dealing with used electronics when its something so important.

I've had better luck with ecms out of a junkyard then the supposedly rebuilt units. The GM remanufactured ones are OK, but the parts house ones, have a poor track record with me.
If the SES light acts right, chances are the ecm is OK.
Once you get it running right, invest in a spare ecm, and test it in car, and then put it on a shelf. With some hunting, they can be bought for very little.

thanks for the advice. found a few for $20 out of a camaro and beretta that worked well. much better then paying 100+ for one when they aren't even new.
called one place that wanted 140 and then said they couldn't have it til noon the next day as they didn't have a parts guy. (probably planned to pick one up from the yard as well).
