ok.. im resurrecting my 2.8 truck. but this time im building it as a straight race truck for autocross. i want to get some really nice easy power out of it for the track. so i was thinking a turbo would be the best and easiest.

i was wondering what was the best ecm and assorted stuff to use? i have a friend pretty well into the v8 tpi and has all the software to burn proms and tune. hes not sure one what program is best to run. says u guys know what ur doin and to ask yinz! :-D

so any hints or tips you can throw my way id be appreciative. oh this truck will never be on the road so emissions or anything like that is not a factor with truck. so any possible cam selection to go with a turbo setup would be also welcomed. thanks!

It's a Pittsburgh thing that I don't understand.

I'm the friend he's talking about. Basically I need to know the following...

Should he use the Sy/Ty ECM?
Will any V6 speed density memcal work (I have several)?
Do we start with the Sy/Ty bin?

This might need to be in the DIY PROM board, but this board looks appropriate, too.

 

If you stay with the six saturated injectors a '730 or a '749 will work. And yep to the sy/ty code/bin (maskID $58).

AFAIK any V6 MEMCAL will work. However, the NETRES and knock filter may not be optimized for that engine. Maybe try and get one from a Turbo 3.1l GrandPrix? At least the knock filter would be setup for a turbo engine. IIRC the 3.1l is a stroked 2.8l so the knock filter will also have the correct frequency.

They also ran 22#/hr injectors in the turbo 3.1l.
