91 ecm question for engine swap

91 ecm question for engine swap

hey,im swapping in a 355 carbed engine into my 91 camaro that has a 305 tbi...i was told i wont need my ecm any more but how will all my guages and stuff work if i dont have my computer any more if i have a carbed engine swapped in... can i just cut all the wires that go to the engine and leave the rest? thanx

dont take it out your speedo requires it as well as the tach.....i made the same mistake same swap and had to buy a new one..

On the TBI vehicles going to carb there is no need at all for the ECM. There is a 4-out buffer box under the dash for the VSS/speedo/cruise. This needs to stay.

If you remove the ECM harness in one piece you can always sell it and the ECM.

so even tho i have a 91 with non mechanical guages i will not have a problem with completely removing the ecm? sorry but i just wanna make this clear before i go ahdead and make a major mistake.... thanx alot

If you have an automatic tranny you'll need something to control the Torque Converter Clutch.

RBob is 110 % correct, ditch that ECM. I did it myself and everything works. I used mechanical aftermarket gauges for oil and water, but speedo, fuel, & voltmeter still work fine. If you want to use your factory oil and water just leave the wires and sending units in place. there is no need for the ECM in these vehicles other than operating the fuel injection. but do handle that TCC as Grumpy stated.

what will i need for the torque converter clutch to be controlled? should i get a new torque converter? since im going to a 300 hp+ engine?
