Where to get a custom EPROM?
I think this goes in this forum... I don't think it's allowed in the DIY forum!
I'm going to need a chip burned for my new motor. I have no experience with this... and I really don't want to learn. Not that I'm lazy, but I have tried learning this sorta thing before and it just wasn't happening!
So, where can I go (online, person, whatever) and say what I have for a setup, then they mail me a chip?
TPiS wants $500 for one. I hope that's not the norm!

There's just no way anyone can invest the time to really tune your engine without charging a small fortune.
In a long run, you'll do better to figure it out, and do your own.
Or just leave things stock.
There has to be 20-30 threads on guys feeling ripped off by custom chip burners. But, then again, there are the ocassional successes.

Pushing a mouse curser around in a windows based tuning package and slapping chips in a burner is easy.
Its that whole engine theory bit that always trips me up...

Theyll just push a mouse curser around and slap a chip in a burner. They wont touch on the actual issues that will need to be addressed. Even two chips Ive seen done on a dyno didnt look that great.
Youll need to do it yourself in order to properly tune it. Theres just no way around it.

If this is a MAF vehicle then the chip probably would work since there wont be any tuning involved, just them messing with some of the stock parameters and the timing tables.
On the flip side, with a healthy motor youll be in for a rude awakening with a stock MAF when you step on it. It wont keep up with the demand since it can only register so much flow. IIRC, there are also table(s) that limit the peak flow that can be registered.

This is what the motor will be:
1988 Iroc-Z, 305 TPI originally with T5
1969 350
Trick Flow Twisted Wedge G2 heads
Holley Stealth Ram
270 magnum (224/224 -110) flat tappet cam
1.6 roller rockers
Hooker 2055 headers w/ 3" y-pipe
24# injectors
It's not the best combo, but I'm getting a deal on the heads and headers. Someone on the boards says he's running around 12 sec times with a similar setup!
So, with that in mind, now is there much tuning to do? I know I will have to cut the EGR out of the picture, but I wasn't thinking about the MAF.... and I wouldn't know how to conver to speed density!

The maf should have the p/t stuff covered. Youll need to mess around with the PE params. to get the desired WOT afrs when the maf pegs, though. Of course, theres still the timing and all the other little things.

My advice, if you're absolutely determined not to learn to tune yourself, is to check your local clubs, and see if you can make friends with someone in your area who has the equipment and likes tuning cars. I'd probably be more inclined to trust a competent hobbyist, who just might be happy to have other cars to practice on, than I would some of these mail order vendors who are more interested in your money.

Yah, most of the sites online charge a flat rate and say they will help with tuning over the phone and such... I'll never get it right that way.
Thing is, except for the New England F-body club (which I wasn't very pleased with, long story), there aren't any 3rd gen clubs that I know of in Mass.
