smog pump blue's
Does anyone know if it can be safely removed without having to reprogram the ecu? I removed mine (it broke....) and my ecm integrator is pegged, leaning out the car bad. Could this be because the O2 sensor isn't getting the air from the smog pump? This is the only thing that is making the car run like crap so any help would be appreciated.

I know a lot of the TPI guys pull the smog pumps w/o problems. Not sure on the 2.8's. Typically the pump only injects air into the manifold during warm up, which is open loop.
As for the leaning out, a silicon poisoned O2 sensor will report being rich. This in turn will drive the INT low causing the engine to cut out.
RBob.

the 02 is brand new and I bought it from the dealer. There was no change in readings between the old and the new sensor. My dad was the one who wanted me to try out a dealer senser.... I just don't understand why the car would be running lean all the time. At idle, the car runs fine and switches (02 reading jumps around 0-1V). If I crack the throttle, it leans to 0.0V and then goes to about 0.5. Anything over 1/4 throttle, the car runs lean all the time, except for at wide open. At WO it starts out lean, and then goes to 0.7 ish.
All of the sensor readings are good, and most of them are new. Should I just try to redo the EEProm? The ignition also retards when this is going on. I've tried to disconnect the knock sensor, but nothing helps. Everything has been rebuilt or replaced, and nothing has helped. I'll take that back, the only thing that helped was when I hooked up a Snap-On scan tool and forced the car to closed loop. It ran really good like that!

Try ohming out the injectors. They should be 12-18 ohms.

Smog Pump
Make sure you plug the tubes on the manifolds and cats. Believe it or not..I could feel suction on the tubes,.. sucking in air and leaning out the exhaust and telling the MCS to go full rich!!

I've plugged up all the holes and pinched the lines for the EGR. It doesn't have an EGR anyway. I also measured the fuel injector banks, 4 ohms for 3 injectors, which is 12 per injector. I have the 17lb/hr injectors in too..... I really have no idea what to try next.

double check computer codes when removing the smog pump
My smog pump crapped out and I'm attempting to run with out it. An artical in one of my old 1986 chevy mags states to leave to electronics plugged in or the computer can't see the solinoids being on or off...each creats a voltage that the computer reads!

I took my smog pump out and it didn't even throw a code, albeit it was a 305, not a V6.

This is how I justify it. If the smog pump adds air to an already stable engine, it would make it read lean, post pump. SO if you take it out, the ecm would try to make it lean out the engine to make it look like the pump was there.
But then I also heard that the pump only worked when the engine was cold to help the cat work better.....
Does anyone know for sure how and when the pump is activated????
