Ecm?

I have searched and for some reason can not find what I am looking for. I have read a lot of posts on ECM swaps and I am not sure what the benefits are of this. People going from a 730 to a 749 and such. I have an 89 GTA with the L98. What ecm do I have and if I should change it what should I change it to and what would the benefits be. I am not asking anyone to go to far in depth. If someone knows of a site or link that I can find all this I will read all I need there. Thanks

You have a 165 ecm and use a maf.
I won't go into which is better maf or SD.
The 7730/7749 are SD ecm's and are almost the same
internally. Main difference is that the 7749 has two injector drivers while the 730 has one. And the 749 can drive up to 6
peak & hold low resistance injectors typically in the 3 ohm area. While the 730 will only do high resistance 14 ohm saturated injectors or 1 peak and hold I believe.
The 730 came on a lot of cars and is easy to find.
It will run the same program as a 749 so you can use
factory designed boost capable code from a 749 on a 730.
A lot of people wait for the maf to die and then swap to a 730 using the stickie from up top as a guide on how to do it.
A used 730 is a lot cheaper than a new maf sensor.
