ls1 ecm

i was thinking has anyone converted maybe a whole newer ecm over to our blocks? i could see some advantages being a higher flowing maf, and the sequential fuel injection (not the batch fire)

and maybe easier tuning and better programing right off the bat?

Contact Moates. I think he is selling LS1 ECMs for tuning for $1000.00 or something. He could probably tell you if they are easier to tune.

i realized their is a problem with the ignition, being that the ls1 has a cam and crank sensor, and us gen 1 blocks get a old fashioned distributor.

wonder how i could make that work...

Check out the DIY PROM board for the LT1 PCM topics. Some are current right now. They are modifying distributors. Check out the megasquirt.com links for the crank trigger info. The info exists because some are doing EDIS that requires crank trigger.

Re: ls1 ecm

From the dead.. Any new updates on if a ls1 ecm could run only the fuel portion of the engine? leave the timing for the distributor, either vacuum advance or msd controlled?

Re: ls1 ecm

I saw all that, but I just want fuel control, not ignition, is their a problem in using it for one portion, not the other?

Huge thread

In a nut shell, it uses mid 90's truck timing cover and dist to get crank/cam pos signals. 00-01 van tune to use the single coil on a LSx PCM and mostly LSx harness. Can be MAF or SD

The down side is older non E auto trans loose lockup without an additional vacuum switch

Using two ECMs to control different functions of an engine is rather redundant when one will do everything

Re: ls1 ecm

I just want the easy use and tuning of ls1 ecu fuel control, and msd will control my ignition. I dont want to fight to get a coil per cylinder firing.
does a ls1 ecu need just the crank signal to manage fuel deliever, I dont see why it would need a cam signal to run fueling.
I would think picking up that eficonnections crank signal kit would be a great place to start! and of coarse, all my current sensors are already ls1 compatable.

Re: ls1 ecm

Read the thread

It reuses a single coil, like what you've got now and can be boosted by the IGN box. Mike's 24x reluctor kit is for coil per cyl setups

The crank/cam sensors are handled by GM parts. From reading on tech, the cam sensor isnt critical. The truck distributor's connector is for the cam sensor

Re: ls1 ecm

I read the full first page, im not clear how the ls1 ecu gets it signal for fueling then, is it that reluctor wheel or not?
