quick question about megasquirt install controling fuel only

hey im gonna be installing a megasquirt system ihot my rs shortly but was wondering about a few things.

the car is an turbocharged 89 rs with a 302 ecm (maf
what i plan on doing is at first running the ms poiggy back so i dont have to worry about tunning the ign part of it right away till i get the fueling part sorted out.now i run a draw threw maf setup, and was wondering 9if i could unhook the maf so i could remove it from my turbos inlet pipe all together.
the reason for doing this is the maf is a pretty big restriction on my setup.
big enough to notice a few inch'es of vacum difference on either side of the maf.i.e turbo side vs airfilterside.

now i know removing the maf will put the ecm into limphome mode.but what i havent been able to find out is when the ecm goes into limp home mode does it alter the spark tables.or does it just alter the fuel tables.not that the fuel tables would matter anyway.
and also does limphme mode affect tcc lockup ?

thnx guys

I'm not 100 percent sure on that, but congrats on the megasquirt! I built the MSII v 3.0.

You should be able to verify the timing with a light to see if it stays the same with the MAF removed. Also, you might want to check over at the PROM board, as there are some very smart people who know the code inside and out.

While you are in there splicing wires, why not go ahead and do the spark at the same time? Just use your current spark table.

simplicity really, its just one less thing to do before i can get the car back up and running again, one less thing to mess up as well, eventually i will use it to control spark, but im unsure of the route im going to go,weather it be direct ignition or keep the dizzy.

I thought the same thing at first, but I think I'm going to install all at once. Did you get the pigtail? I'm getting the 18" cable. After reading for hours today (between contracts, had the day off), it looks like it can be done and drivable in a weekend or less. Even if you are unsure of where you are going to end up with spark control, it seems like it's going to be easy to change later anyways.

I've been studying the factory wiring diagram, just going to solder into the stock wires at the ECM. They also had the 12' pigtail on diyautotune that each wire labeled every three inches. The wiring is in good shape in the Firebird, so they're staying to make the install easier.

That is what I did. I bought the short pigtail and just soldered the wires.

I'm trying to decide on the assembled unit and kit. Toehead, how long did the assembly take you? I saw some of your old posts about MS, weren't you the one with little/no experience soldering?
Sorry to jack, Dave .

check ebay, assembled ms units are pretty cheap 200 for a ms 1 and 300+ for a ms 2.to me the extra cost is worth it specially if u dont have much electronics soldering experiance.though building it is part of the fun as well

Thet's th thing I do have experience soldering (I build/fly electric R/C helicopters), and just want to get a general idea of what kind of timeframe I am looking at. On the MS website, they say not to trust the e-bay units - but I want to weigh out all my options. Now that I've got a budget to work with (money hasn't been rolling in lately) I just want to get the best for my buck. Unless of course you want to give me a discount on the heads so I can afford a little more !

Remember too, that I didn't already have the WBo2.

I got the kit from DIYautotune.com. I ordered it at 12:00, and by 2:00 I had the tracking number. As their website says "we have super speedy ninja shipping."

Got the kit, which included the PCB, the daughtercard, all needed components clearly labelled, pre-drilled heatsink, and pre-machined case.

The assembly took me one saturday, with a few hours of breaks. Everything worked correctly on the first try as well. i would rocommend doing it yourself, I had fun building the thing.

Funny, the day after I said the MS site recommends you don't buy from ebay - diyautotune shows up there ?!?
