questions on winaldl
Hi guys i have some questions here, i put winadl on my laptop and plugged it in and it started working right away, but i never changed the ECU type in the win aldl menu how do I know what ecu i have so i can be sure its set for my car which is a 305 tbi 91 rs ? second is the car seems to pull very weak alot like a older HEI car that has to strong of springs in the distributer and wont allow extra timming to come in, i noticed that even just reving the motor the knock counts count up, i am new to win aldl but i think this means my knock sensor is detecting pings?which is odd since i even ran 94 octane to see if they went away. so is the computer then pulling timming out for each knock it counts? could i please data log and have you guys look at it and tell me what you see wrong and right? and lastly is there a tutorial any where that will help me understand each winaldl section and what all this data means?
if some one is willing to look at a data log for me please tell me how you want it done, for example do you want me to log for a set number of minutes or miles and do you want town driving or highway with WOT ect ect?

i also noticed at idle the TPS voltage is a - number and at WOT it only goes to about 98 is this supposed to be 0 at idle and 100 at WOT? i wish winaldl came with a tutorial on what all of this data means and what its supposed to be.

With the knock counts increasing during rev'ing I would check for a noise generator. This can be any number of items. Bad tensioner/alternator/water-punp bearing, exhaust rattle, knock sensor wire burned or rubbed through, etc.
You can try disconnecting the knock sensor wire and grounding it. Then see if it makes a difference in how the engine runs. Do watch out for audible knocking, and if so back off. It may be that the engine is on the endge of knocking and it can not be heard.
I can't help with the WinALDL. I searched around the DIY_PROM stickies and didn't find anything on it there either.

thanks for the reply i was starting to wonder if this forum was still alive
i do notice a noisy belt tensioner it sounds like its bearings are going bad. some one i know also said i could try a knock sensor from a "hotter" engine? i will see if the grounding out of the knock sensor wire makes any changes as well.

as for the TPS, you are correct. It needs to be adjusted as per the tech article.
as for the ecm, try here

Good luck.

Re: questions on winaldl
was i also coorect to say the computer would pull timming out every time it heard a knock? and if so does it also add timing back in when it dont hear a knock? and according to that web site i have a 1228746 in my 91 5.0 tbi camaro sound right? and lastly i was told once i go with headers the knock sensor may trigger false knocks is there a knock sensor that from a "hotter" engine i can switch to?

Re: questions on winaldl
Your ECM should be the '8746.
If the knock counts are persistent enough the ECM will reduce the timing. As the knock counts stop occurring the ECM will decay out the timing retard.

the smog pump seems to have a bit of slop in the bearing , i think its the noise i hear when the belt is on, the ac compresser also seems to have a little slop in it. is there any way to bypass teh smog pump with a shorter belt or do i need a dummy pulley there?
