Need help to ID an LT1 ecm
I just bought an LT1 that I was told was from a 95 Caprice, I check numbers and it is from a Caprice, but the computer and harness that came with the engine is what I am curious about, I was trying to find out for sure if the ecm was from a Caprice, and when I punched in the Serv. No 16214399 and the program code BSCY. I didnt get crap on google, just a single hit on a forum with a another guy asking about the same ecm and he was told it was an OBDII 96 PCM. So now I am really concerned that I dont have the right computer. Can anyone please tell me exactly what I have, here are all the numbers that were on the ecm tag:
Serv. No 16214399 BSCY
*86BSCYK15264OZR0
16229981
thanks

Re: Need help to ID an LT1 ecm
You have a 96 OBDII computer for LT1.
http://www.fuelinjection.com/portinj.html
Check out this link for info.
The 94-95 ecm part # are 16188051 & 16181333.
Either should work on OBDI 94-95 system. It's going to have a OBDII plug, but moates.net has a OBDI data cable with OBDII plug.
You probably got a 96 Caprice drive train instead of 95. You will have to find someone to edit out some stuff that has OBDII program.

Re: Need help to ID an LT1 ecm
well I went out and mocked up the harness onto the engine and I think I am going to try and find another harness and computer. The one I have has tons of extra plugs I have no idea where go and also a huge plug with a metal type retainer that must have a matching female connector which I dont have. Plus the harness has about 6 or 7 wires that are just dangling without connnectors and I know for sure that one of the connectors for the injectors is not there, just two dangling wires. The harness has the fuse box and everything so maybe I can use that for something, but the harness seems to be more of a pain that what its worth and I think I'd be better off getting another harness and ecm.
So my question is whether or not I can get another harness and ecm and use it on this motor since it was originally OBDII? OBDII is great IMO on a factory installation but its a nightmare on a swap, so I think I'd be better off staying with OBD 1 system.
At the moment it looks like I'm gonna have to buy an LT1 carb intake so I can get the motor put in and running, and then work at getting the right FI system to put in a bit later down the road. That really sucks but it looks like I dont have much choice.

Here is a great link to change over your OBDII harness to OBDI.

Re: Need help to ID an LT1 ecm
Can anyone tell me how the diagnostic connector is connected to the ecm? The harness I got doesnt have a diagnostic connector, but all plugs on ecm are used so where does the diagnostic connector plug in at? There is a large connector on the harness that has a funny looking metal locking type mechanism on it, is that supposed to have another harness that plugs into that. If so does anyone know where I could get one?
It looks as though I am going to keep the obd2 harness and get an obd1 ecm, but I really need the diagnostic port for tuning, and I also gotta get some connectors and repair the harness where some idiot cut off certain connectors like one of the injector connectors and a sensor on the pass side of block also has no connector. i got lots of work ahead, but I am determined to make this work becuase I dread the thought of having to run a carb on this engine. I'll try and get a pic of the big connector I am curious about later today when I get to the garage.
The one thing that would be a huge help at this point is a schematic showing the harness and exactly what each connector goes too, cause after mocking up the harness, it appears I have tons of unused connectors. and before I cut em out I wanna make sure I dont need em.

Tan wire off of the C100 should be the Serial data wire, only one really needed. Others would be power wire and both grounds.

The C100 plug is on the LT1 harness, big plug, has 8 wires in it, these will be your injector power, ignition power, pcm power everything to make the car run goes through this plug. Sort of like the bulkhead connector on a 3rd gen.
