I am trying to do a 730 to 749 swap and have a no start issue. Let’s start with my setup. I have 350 TPI running 90-92 Camaro MAP harness from Fuel Injection Connection (pined for a 730) and a 749 ECM. I have re-pined the harness as suggested by Clint Buckalew in a post here on the forum. I reused the 730 memcal, flashed in the BBZB bin file just as he says but the thing won’t start. When I connect the TECH ONE to the ALDL and turn the key to ON, my fuel pump primes, then I can get it to flash code 12, then fans come on, after that it says NO DATA. I have no spark or injector pulse. It all seems pretty straight forward from things that I have read but I’m stumped, why won’t it run? Anybody got something that might help me? BTW I’m new to ECM swapping so go easy on me!

 

Did you burn the $58 mask BIN high in the chip? It is only half the size of the $8D BIN.

Also, I have tried a different 749 ecm and a different memcal with the same results. Dont know whats going on, probably something simple im looking over...

 

It then sounds like the ECM is bad or the MEMCAL isn't properly seated. Can you try the '7730 ECM again? Probably don't need to re-pin, just plug it in along with the MEMCAL to see if it works OK at key-on, engine-off.

Well I got her running! It was due to a faulty MSD box. I still dont have any communications through the Scan tool. My question is, what car/vin code should I be looking it up with? SC/TY vin Z does not seem to work for me. What are some other options?
