Cold Start Injector (CSI) bad?

Checking my injector coils after ECC failure. CSI reads about 7.5 ohms; book says 10 or higher. Chevy has the CSI as discontinued. NAPA, CarQuest et al. show the cold start switch but not the injector.

Q1. Will the 7.5 ohm coil damage the new ECC?

Q2. If the answer to Q1 is yes, where does one find a replacement CSI?

Q3. If a replacement CSI is not to be found, what options are available to run the car without a CSI? I live in SoCal so the issue of cold starts is only a couple of days a year.

Thanks,

Re: Cold Start Injector (CSI) bad?

If you are referring to the ECM (engine control module) as the ECC, the cold start injector is not controlled by it. It is on it's own switch.

There are reports of having the CSI disconnected in warm climates without starting issues. Can try unplugging the connector to it and see how it works out.

The other option is update the PROM to use the code for a 1989 model year where they made the MAF cars without a CSI. Once you do that, you can just pull it off, plug the holes, and tuck the wires out of the way.

Re: Cold Start Injector (CSI) bad?

Thanks for the replies!

I did some additional research after I posted my question. I am pretty sure my computer was whacked anyway and so have replaced that. Since the CSI isn't controlled by the computer, I will do exactly as recommended. I will reflash my PROM with the later code.

Now to find a cover for the CSI port and injector rail.

If you do use the '89 MAF code there are calibration items that require changing. VATs & the fans being the primary ones.
