multiple chips with switch possible ???
I heard someone talk about putting multiple chips into an ECM ... maybe with some kind of aftermarket docking port ... maybe ... and then running wires to a switch on the dash to be able to go back and forth. I have heard of multi-stage chips and ECM's too, but don't know much about them ... are there any with a dash switch like I am looking for??
All I am trying to do here is have one tune where I can get some decent gas mileage ... *#@$ oil companies ... but flip a switch and get my 1/4 mile time down.
Anybody have any ideas???

with a chip properly tuned to your motor, you'll get good fuel mileage & performance.
for performance your at or near WOT. for every day driving your normally at half throttle or less.
the aftermarket chips are guesses at best, and many times they guess wrong.
the only way to get it tuned right is to do it your self.
the link that iansane posted to the the PROMinator by MrBill is one way to tune it your self. the people i have talked to that have it, love it.
another way is the Ostrich or the AutoProm by Craig Moates. these are available from,
http://www.moates.net/
you can also buy or build an ALDL cable for data logging, buy a few chips & a burner, and a chip carrier if your ECM needs one.
like this you take a data log, make changes based on what the log tells you, burn a chip & install it in your car and then go make another data log.
there is a steep learning curve to tuning you own chips.
you do need a laptop for data logging.

The model number you gave me is for an 88. Mine is an 89. Will it work?
It it brand new or used?
If used, what was your application?? Good results??
Is it basically a docking station for 6 chips?? Can I instal custom made chips and use it that way??
Anyone else have any experience with these 6 pack kits??
Re: multiple chips with switch possible ???
Keep in mind the Prominator is a permanent install in/on ECU. My ECU is back under the dash. I have a lead on passanger floor area for the download to ECU of .bin and another to dash(velcro) where the bin switcher dial sits to right of stereo. One more lead to my lappy for datalogging. When I have passanger I bundle 2 of 3 with a rubber band under dash. No chips to deal with. I liked the idea of permanency and no connectivity issues with a plug in devise. If I had multiple cars I was tuning then the other devises shine. I have a 90% success rate downloading .bins to Prominator. If it fails it works on second attempt. Last season was 100% successful. My lappy or serial/USB cable might be the problem.
I can fiddle with the lappy at the office, create 7 .bins with minor differences(like AE values) and switch between them to see which one the motor likes.
Does the Jet product hold the .bins? Are there physically 6 chips. Or some sort of memory devise with room for 6 .bins? Can you modify the .bins sitting on Jet devise or are they locked by Jet?

Re: multiple chips with switch possible ???
Ronny, your setup seems like what I am looking for. I didn't realize that the Prominator could hold several .bin's at a time and you could switch between them. I have to admit that I didn't read that web page very closely because one of the first things I saw was that it was not for vehicles that have to go through emissions inspections. We have those annual inspections in Texas. It is bad like in California or anything, but I don't know if it is something I should stay away from. You have any idea??
But yeah, it would be nice to have several programs that I can dial into for different purposes. Or do it like you are doing it and come up with my own programs and test a handful at a time. But I need to learn how to do that too.

I dont see how emmishions would be an issue. If you modify a stock .bin so that performance is optimized on a modded engine then I can see how you might generate issues in a sniffer test. It is what comes out the pipe that is important not what ECU you are using. Maybe that is a "legal" disclosure only to protect Speedtronics. There are members here that can suggest tips to help pass when one might normally fail or have failed.

Before I forget EBL-Flash is another permanent devise for lack of a better word. Not sure if it holds multiple bins. also not sure if you can swap in a .bin with engine running with EBL-Flash. I dont think the bin switcher is all that necessary. to drop in a .bin only tales like one minute if that.

Re: multiple chips with switch possible ???
Ronny, thanks for the info and tips. I went a took another, closer look at the Prominator. Do you have the standard package or the pro prominator? The pro looks like you can do a bit more with it, but is it worth an extra 100 bucks??
Also, what else would I need to set myself us like you have ... prominator and laptop are a given ... but what else ... scanners, programmers, software ?????

Re: multiple chips with switch possible ???
Is the Pro worth the xtra $100? most likely not. I have Pro and really dont need to change bins on the fly nor is the switcher all that important to me. I will say Lappy needs XP not Vista. also a serial to USB adapter(datalogging). maybe a parallel(Prominator) PCMIA card if no parallel port. Tuner Pro RT for modifying/looking at bins. RT also datalogs but I have EBL(!) for that. WB and controlller is highly recommended but not totally necessary. Others use other hardware - software. Read the stickies for other options.

Ronny, thanks for that. Other than just playing around with it and figuring it out by trial and error, can you suggest some good stuff to read or anything like that to learn how to make the right tunes?? This is totally new to me. I wouldn't know where to begin.
