8063 ECM with $61
Going to start off by saying that I have done some searching, but not extencively yet.
I want to start out with a .bin file for an Lo5 from an 8746 ECM written in ($61). From what I have gathered, I can assume that the 8063 in my 88 will not accept this code? The 8063 in 1988 is the child that apparently was not meant to be for use with a 350 right out of the box so to speak.
Is there anyway to get the $61 bin file to work with my 8063, or will I need to come up with the tables from the 8063 for the Lo5 and manually enter them as a starting point for tuning?
I upgraded from the California 305 to a modded 327 and would prefer to start out with enough spark and fuel from a 350 to get the engine broke in before tuning so I don't melt it down before I have a chance to tune and or learn to tune.
I could always just take the easy road and pick up an 8764 ECM to solve the problem since they are physically exactly the same.

Yeah, but can you run the $61 mask in the ECM? I guess I'm just not sure what this mask is or does. Is that the sort of 'code' or 'language' that it is written in? Really what I am trying to do is run a bin file for a 350 that is written in a $61 mask in an ECM that was $4d.
I'm just wondering if the ECM will be able to understand the file written in the $61 mask instead of it being $4d.
From all the reading I have done, I either missed the part or it is not listed where it tells you that you cannot run a different mask in an ECM that did not originally have it.

Did you try it?
I will guess it wont work. a mask is a road map to the info on the chip so to speak. I run a 350 on a 8746 that had a 305.bin. Granted a few things need to be changed but I dont think that is a big hurdle. I understand you would like to match up to 350 cid. Part of the challenge that I consider enjoyable is the "tune" thing. Others get frustrated.

That is what I was wondering about. The ECM would not be able to find anything it needs in the bin.
I'm planning a trip to the salvage yard on Sunday to try and locate an 8746 ECM. Hopefully I can find one with a 350 bin aleardy in it. Most likely I'll end up with one out of a van, but at least it's a start. I just want enough to get the thing started, break in the motor for 20-30 minutes, and then start tuning.
Thanks for the little explanation.

Well, that certainly puts a damper on things. Guess I need to double check my list of vehicles it came in.

I broke in two cams with a tune that was compromised. One was using stock 350.bin and the other a tuned.bin but the cam was signinificantly larger on second break in. Neither time did I datalog. Once the coolant temp reached 165F I will presume it flipped to closed loop and ran at stoich. I think the ECU can compensate rich lean about 10% based on NB02 feedback. Out side of 10% it may not be able to add remove any more fuel.

Re: 8063 ECM with $61
So from a stock 350, the ECM can account for the addition of or removal of up to 10% fuel needs.
I picked up an 8746 out of what I hope was a 350 Caprice. The injectors were a bit rusty on top, so it was hard to tell if they were 350 injectors or not.
Just need to get the program for the $61 mask, a WB-O2, and I should be all set after I get the engine broke in.

Re: 8063 ECM with $61
If the injectors are 305 and most likely they are(check part # on top of inj) then you will need to compensate with higher fuel pressure(25%>?). Also the BPC will need to be reset for 350-FP-injector size. I thought only the cop car came with 350cid. I could be wrong.
