MEGASQUIRT FOR 350 TPI

Hi, I have a 1988 350 TPI. A good friend of mine has a good buddy that installs and tunes Megasquirt stand alone systems in modified EFI vehicles. My friend is trying to convince me into getting Megasquirt for my Trans Am. I have a 350 TPI motor with Vortec heads, and LT4 Hot Cam, with 1.6 rollers. SLP headers, bigger runners, 24lb injectors, and a bigger Trottle body. Would it be worth doing this upgrade?

Re: MEGASQUIRT FOR 350 TPI

Glad you're happy with it. I'm probably going to do it. Who did it for you, and what do they charge? Is there any issues with the converter lock up? Do they make a board, or do you have to use a stock ECM as a donor? Are you using a 5 wire O2?

Re: MEGASQUIRT FOR 350 TPI

MS uses its own board and housing. There are so many outputs I'm sure it can take care of the TCC.

Re: MEGASQUIRT FOR 350 TPI

if you wait a bit, i'm beta testing the new adapter board for the guy who made the tbi adapter board (diyautotune.com). its a direct tpi harness to megasquirtII connection. its pretty sweet and no custom wiring is required. ms2 would definitely kick *** for your application... especially if you score yourself a wideband o2 sensor.

Re: MEGASQUIRT FOR 350 TPI

Does he have an adapter for TBI?

Can MS handle the vapor canister purge?

How would one go about controlling the converter lock up?

Thanks

D.

Re: MEGASQUIRT FOR 350 TPI

yes, on diyautotune he has the tbi adapter board for sale

the ms does not do emissions. if its a concern, you will need to install it in a piggyback manner to keep your stock computer running emissions equipment.

the board i have has a circuit setup for controlling the tcc lockup.. due to it not utilizing the vss it requires the 4th gear signal from the transmission and some other paramaters. havn't set it up yet on mine. uses pin 30 on the ms to control the primary fan relay, has relay's on the board to control the fuel pump and ignition. has knock circuit built in.. its freakin sweet

No adapters for going from the SD (1227730) style ECM to Megasquirt. Most people recommend re-pinning the later harness to use the earlier style adapter.

i think u can move some stuff around on the adapter board to make it work with 90-91-92 harnesses , instead of repining the harness

Uhhh, noooo...

The SD harness has 3 connectors, where as the earlier systems has only 2, a re-pin is required to use that adapter.

Yeah, which would be "re-pinning".

Re: MEGASQUIRT FOR 350 TPI

I thought S10wildside was doing something "special" to make it possible to not repin. A search may show something. Maybe pm him.

Re: MEGASQUIRT FOR 350 TPI

Would it be possible to just buy and older engine harness and get the adapter so both en ds would just plug in?

Re: MEGASQUIRT FOR 350 TPI

That would entail soldering and heat shrinking. More work. Repin is moving pins with a paperclip to release pin from female plug in

Re: MEGASQUIRT FOR 350 TPI

The 3 plug connectors don't appear to be available, only the delphi 56 connector, which is why you don't see any 3 plug megasquirts.
