Re: ignition system

At key-on, engine-off, does the "security" light on the dash light up and stay lit? Or does it turn off after 4 seconds or so?

If it just stays on then there is a VATs issue.

Re: ignition system

With the security light staying on the starter motor shouldn't crank over the engine. The VATs system disables the starter.

With hte security light going off, the starter should be able to crank over the engine. If it doesn't then there is also another issue. If a stick shift there is a switch on the clutch pedal that interrupts the starter.

If an auto there is a switch on the shifter that will interrrupt the starter.

You can also use a DVM on this switch (auto or stick) to see if power is being applied via the ignition switch.
