best runnung collant temp ???

Since I'm replacing the injectors( 91 Bird V6 ), what is the stock thermostat temp and what do you guys run in yours. In my 1970 454, I used a 160 in summer and a 180 in the winter. TIA

Re: best runnung collant temp ???

Best bet is to stay with the stock 195. Otherwise it just won't run right. There is a bunch of stuff in the ECM that is coolant temperature controlled.

Thanks Bob ! I hate working on these computer cars cause you have to live by too many rules. I grew up on non smog machines. Old dogs HAVE to learn new tricks. Thanks again.

Re: best runnung collant temp ???

Hi there! New guy here. RBob what is your opinion of using something like this http://www.jegs.com/i/JET-Performanc...oductId=752201 especially in hotter climates (Like S/E Texas, where I live)?
Wouldn't keeping the avg. temp. closer to 195F, rather than over 220F all the time allow the ecm to add a little more timing and make more power without negatively affecting anything else? Maybe even using a 180 t-stat along with that?
Thanks,
J. Campbell

Finally got out for a drive and the temp settles down @ 165 degrees. Reckon someone had changed the thermostat before I got this car. Runs SMOOTH with new computer and injectors. If it ain't broke.......

Expect to get 25-28 MPG w/ cruise control.

That makes no sense as if it were truely 165 you would still be in choke/enrichement mode...

In the dead of winter the temp gauge doesn't even get up to 140 degrees.
This year I'm thinking of putting an air block in front of the radiator to get some heat.

You might want to verify your temp gauge readings..sounds a little fishy.
