sd tuned cars question.
Just curious really my 92 z28 is of course a sd tuned car no maf. My question is with a mafless setup will the car recognize when I do bolt ons and air changes like a maf setup or wouldi constantly have to retune it for every mod ? I noticed when I redid my exhaust today that it had a 2 1/4 cat I pipe and flowmaster it always smelled kinda rich and even worse when I cleaned out the cat. Well now its got a new 3in magnaflow cat and 3in magnaflow catback it pulls much smoother and has no fuel smell hardly at all. I haven't checked my timing yetto see where its at the idle is right at 700 and I run 93 octaine non ethenol have no pinging and such. I know my 03 yukon with 5.3 is maf and when I first got it and still ran 87 gas I put a 4in cai on it and the first trip out under wot it pinged and valves chattered but after a few days of normal driving it pulled like a raped ape its been tuned for 93 now and has full boltons but when I did that intake I noticed the biggest pcm compensation.

Re: sd tuned cars question.
depends what bolt-ons you're talking about.
CAI? no
headers? yes
think of it this way: if it might change the actual volumetric efficiency of the engine, then a retune would be advised. otherwise, a different amount of airflow is entering the engine than the ECM is expecting, and will cause rich/lean spots unless corrected.

so basicly if i get to the point where i add headers and upgrade the air box i should retune since i will be both pushing more air in and pushing out. the whole efi game is new to me especialy tpi lol.

well, headers will change the amount of air flowing into/out of the engine at any given RPM and MAP point, which means your fueling won't be correct until the VE table is dealt with.
a cold air intake would just allow cooler air into the engine, not a different amount, and the IAT sensor will correct for that.
stuff like that.
