EBL NOT ENTERING CLOSED LOOP???
EBL NOT ENTERING CLOSED LOOP???
Hello, Im sorta a NOOB to the EBL Flash, having a problem with it entering closed loop, and its throwing my whole tune WAY off.
The truck is a 1989 K1500 Reg Cab Long Box, 22inch rims, 700R4, 3000 stall
The engine...
350 Block with a 400 Crank
4.000 Bore 3.750 Stroke
Iron Corvette Heads from the late 60s... Mild Port job and chambers have been modified, think they flow somewhere in the range of 175-180cfm??? Never tested myself...
Camshaft 292/302 Comp Cams Advertised Duration
.480/.510 Lift at .050 lift....YEA THE CAM IS HUGE I KNOW....Cant remember the other specs sorry, id look it up but im in a big pinch to get this done NOW!!!!!!
Keith Black Pistons with Forged 5.7in Eagle Rods and Eagle Forged Crank
EBL Flash....Newest one that Rbob offers for my truck, originaly the 1227747 converted to the EBL
TBI is a stock 5.7 TBI with 90LB injectors (NOT THE 80LB ones, These are the "EARLY STYLE" 90lb INJ.......Took me weeks to find, dont know if that a common problem or there just rare) and JET Adjustable FPR
I used the 5.4L EBL_F_3001.bin for the base bin to start out scence its the closest to my motor.
I have datalogged a couple times and done VE Learns and the EBL is NOT GOING INTO CLOSED LOOP??????
I do have headers with no cats, and true dual exhaust.... and Corvette Center Exit exhaust in the back....I just bought a 3 wire heated O2 Sensor tonight and am going to install it tommorow
My VE seems WAY TO HIGH for my engine, but mabey it is right????? I also think that the SA initial or the SA in general is just way off for my motor, its at 42 degrees at like 2000 RPM? Is this normal???? Seems like its all the way in WAY to fast... Or am i wrong?
The other thing i notice is that the INT and BLM never change from 128??? Is that Because its not in CL operation or something else????
Here is the last datalog i did when the motor was running the best it EVER has, yea i know its way off still but seriously this thing MOVES compared to when i had the stock 1227747 in with a "GET IT DRIVEABLE CHIP" i had in it...
IDK i am just lost, do i just need the HEATED O2, or is something in my EBL not allowing it to go into CL operation?????
PLEASE HELP, THANKS

Re: EBL NOT ENTERING CLOSED LOOP???
Sorry, Like i said i am a noob, dont like to bother anyone with my own stupidity, never knew that file was an OL tune....and dont know how to tell if it is or not.
Feel really stupid now, just would like some help with my tune and know that you have LOTS of people needing help and cant solve every question. I was just lost and used that file because it had similar characteristics of my motor. Explains my noobness to this whole situation i got myself into...ha
If possible what is my best solution to this problem, run a stock bin and just fudge the BPC Constants and Airflow scaler and just start datalogging and move from there? I have done a lot of research on the EBL in forums but nobody seems to have answers for my questions so i just grabbed that file and ran with it on my own and just started asking questions here, i found this site from a friend and found more info in 1 hour than i found on all the other sites i found combined.
Any help appreciated, Thanks

Re: EBL NOT ENTERING CLOSED LOOP???
That calibration is listed as "OL cruise, CL idle", so it is a bit cryptic.
Un-check these two flags:
Option Word 1 - Bit 3 - OpCrs
Option Word 1 - Bit 2 - OpIdl
It will then go closed loop except when in decel. Note that the proportional gains may be off on that calibration. So if it starts to surge in closed loop they will need to be tweaked.
> and know that you have LOTS of people needing help
It just seems that way as there are many of the EBL systems out there.

The airflow scalar isn't that important. It is only used for the table look-ups that are based on airflow. Isn't used for the fueling calculation.
Set the BPC table according to the engine displacement and injector flow rate. Use the EBL Utility for this. Then just copy & paste into TunerPro.
Then move on to VE Learns. Note that there are two Intro to Tuning pages on our web site. The TunerPro tutorial was updated yesterday for V5. Then some minor updates to the tutorial for the What's Up Display (WUD).
Note that there is a huge thread on tuning the EBL on the DIY_PROM board here on TGO. Along with other miscellaneous EBL threads on that board.

Do you have the laser etched numbers that are on the top of the injectors? I've yet to find true 90#/hr TBI injectors.

Re: EBL NOT ENTERING CLOSED LOOP???
Thanks for the reply
I an going to UNCHECK
Option Word 1 - Bit 3 - OpCrs
Option Word 1 - Bit 2 - OpIdl
"Do you have the laser etched numbers that are on the top of the injectors? I've yet to find true 90#/hr TBI injectors"
The injectors... I have no idea if the are TRUE 90# inj or if they are rated lower, they came from GP Sorensen, i had to order them, i talked to some rep for GP and he said they were 90#, off of an 88 Suburban with the 7.4L..... but that could just be the rated lbs not true flow, I found an old page on another site that had a color code for the injectors, RED/DARK RED=90lb???? But then Im just taking someones word not true fact
I will fix these issues and try some VE learns tonight, is there a cance that because of the mods i have, I need to change the Closed Loop upper and lower GO IN and STAY IN values right away to avoid any more headache, or should i just change Option Word 1 - Bit 3 - OpCrs and Option Word 1 - Bit 2 - OpIdl and i can still run the EBL_F_3001.bin for a good starter bin to work with??
Thanks again, you have an amazing product and a vast knowledge of the GM ecm, much mor than i could ever have done on my own,
Ill try some datalogs and see what everything looks like

Re: EBL NOT ENTERING CLOSED LOOP???
You can try that BIN to start with. Although it is set up for a stick shift, not an automatic. Should at least set the TCC option flag so that the TCC logic is used.
Just un-check the two flags as mentioned. The upper & lower O2 limits are fine as they are. Once the O2 sensor warms up the O2 signal will be all over the place. Then once the ECM goes into closed loop the O2 will be bouncing rich/lean.

Re: EBL NOT ENTERING CLOSED LOOP???
more than likely a bad o2 sensor. I know that closed loop is dependent upon 3 things: coolant temp, o2 sensor function and time
