AHHH HELP, trip tomorrow and have problems
AHHH HELP, trip tomorrow and have problems
Ok, so I will try to keep it short because I have been and still am trying to get ready tomorrow.
I had a 350 with a TBI conversion from a 1988 truck, but I just installed a stock TBI crate motor.
I had a new chip made because I was still using the large in cap HEI and was using a chip made for me that did not account for the dizzy differenece.
I got a new chip made that accounts for the Spark latency changes for the different dizzys, but I put it in, and it dies at any throttle.
Fast forward 3 hours of data logging and BS, and now I have realized that my OLD "working" chip never puts the ECM out of idle mode. and the new chip, as soon as I press the throttle and it goes out of idle mode, the motor just dies. No spitting or backfiring, just totally dies as soon as it leaves idle mode.
I replaced the ICM, and all the sensors check out in the computer, and it still runs great with my old chip.
What is the "idle mode"? and why does my engine die as soon as I leave it. I am missing power and MPGs because I have the wrong spark latency, and now I am going on a weekend trip and want to have this solved, or at least make some sense of what is going on.
Thanks,
Sam

Huh, I thought Spark latency was just for base timing and needed to be change when going to another triggering device small and large cap hei's are vr.
You might want to post your $61 bin.

Thats what I was told, and also this new chip I got has a few changes for the log I sent with to get the tune. I am just really stumped now as to what is going on.
Also the car runs fine in limp mode with no PROM at all. No codes are set, or have been set with either chip.

Few more updates to see if it helps anyone with troubleshooting:
I jumpered the fuel pump relay, and it still stalls out. It looks as if the ECM is shutting down the injectors and spark somehow once I hit the gas. Still runs fine with the old chip and with no chip (limp mode).
I looked at an old log from my old chip, and it does get out of idle mode. So that is now off the table. The big question is what is going on between these new chips. Im headed out to try a different ECM just to see if that is a problem.
After that, I am totally completely out of ideas and am throwing in the towel on this one.

It only dies with the new chip? Did VATS get turned on in the bin or possibly fuel cutoff rpm is set very low. How is your TPS voltage, is it set to 0.55 volts at idle? The only difference is obviously the chip, so I would look at the bin and see if anything sticks out.
Good Luck! It really is frustrating when you have a deadline but don't panic and think through it. You'll get it.
