I need help i have a 1988 chevy caprice with a quadrajet electonic carb my problem is thati when i disconnect the mixture control solenoide car runs but onece i plug it back car dies right away i checked the solenoide plunger travel and its right also the solenoide makes the clicking noise when switch is on any ideas how to fix the problem thank you

Not sure how much folks here know about the E carb set ups. Most tend to remove them and go non-E. Back a few years when I was working on one, I found info on various sites all over the 'net.

Basically, a little here and a little there. It was helpful in getting to understand these E-carbs. Check the carb board here too, there may be some useful information.

The mixture control solenoid energizes and pulls down the primary metering rods, in which are spring loaded, essentially targeting the lean position. When it is not energized it is targeting the rich position, which is why your engine runs with the solenoid disconnected. The duty cycle of the mixture control solenoid determines your air/fuel ratio on the primary side, the secondary side isn't controlled by the ECM. If the solenoid is clicking, and literally stalling the engine when it is connected, it is more than likely defective and won't allow idle.

Replace it...
