92 vin e to 88 vin f ecm
My car came from the factory as a 92 305 tbi. Previous owner began the conversion to tpi using 88 parts. The car was rewired using a painless performance harness for 86-89 tpi. Car has been running poorly and our mechanic thought it might be having the 92 ecm still in the car. I happen to have an 88 vin f ecm number 1227165. Can I simply swap the 92 ecm with the 88?

Since it is the correct harness for the '88 '7165 ECM. Plug it in and try it.
Also, it only takes a minute to see which ECM is in the car now.

Thanks Rbob. I put the 88 ecm in and so far it seems to be running okay. I did get code 24, which is telling me there is no signal from the vss, but my speedometer is working and working well so I'm going to disregard this for now.

If it does occur while moving the VSS buffer under the dash cluster may be bad.
OTOH, the '92 TBI car uses the under-dash VSS buffer. While an '88 Camaro uses a dash cluster VSS buffer. A '88 TPI Firebird may also use the under dash buffer. Not sure.
